Meet our CEO, Zig!

As Candlefox’s fearless leader, Zig is the glue that keeps the company together; living and breathing our company values at every turn.

We picked Zig’s brain to discuss how he strives to innovate the business into the future, as well as empowering his employees to find value in learning and growth.

What made you start the business?

Zig: Candlefox was actually formed out of hardship during the global financial crisis. I was running a business in the recruitment space, but the whole world stopped recruiting.

Through that crisis, as people began looking to education to better their skills to for more employment opportunities, the education side of our business was born.

What is the biggest achievement for Candlefox so far?

Zig: The biggest achievement for Candlefox is moving from a start up business, to a sustainable business.

This is a massive success for us, and something that every start up aims to achieve.

What are you most proud of when you look back to see how far Candlefox has come?

Zig: I’m super proud of Candlefox’s culture, and the people that have helped build it to what it is today.

When you have a team of over 50 people, like us, it becomes even more important to make sure that we hold onto our roots, and maintain an atmosphere where people can grow and thrive.

I think that we’ve done an epic job at preserving our culture, and this is a huge achievement for the business.

What did you want to be when you were a kid?

Zig: I’ve always wanted to be an entrepreneur. I’ve felt this from a very early age, I would say partly due to growing up in a business.

I’ve always had the drive to create some form business, and that’s been my ambition.

I actually ran a dating service at school – I would pair up all of my female friends with the guys who were struggling to get dates.

I used to buy lollies wholesale and bring them to school, put a bit of margin on them and sell them back to the kids.

I’ve always been very entrepreneurial; it’s been my dream.

What do you see in Candlefox’s future?

Zig: Candlefox in the future will be a very diverse organisation with much deeper products and services, servicing the education sector.

So, rather than just a lead generation and enrolment services business, we are going to be a lot more than that.

There are plans to become even more intrinsically involved and more influential in the education sector, in multiple geographies, which is very exciting.
